Strikeforce announced a light heavyweight showdown for December, signing former champion Gegard Mousasi to meet rising prospect Ovince St. Preux.
Mousasi-St. Preux is the only fight confirmed for the December 17 card, which does not have a venue yet.
Other fights that have been targeted for the card include Gilbert Melendez defending his Strikeforce lightweight title against Jorge Masvidal, Cristiane Santos defending her featherweight crown and the return of Gina Carano.
Mousasi (31-3-2) is undefeated since dropping the 205-pound crown to Muhammed Lawal, going 3-0-1. The Lawal loss was his first since 2006.
St. Preux (11-4) has won eight straight fights, and is a perfect 5-0 in Strikeforce. “OSP” is a former University of Tennessee football player who owns five of his 11 career wins by knockout or TKO.
With Dan Henderson signing to fight back in the UFC, the status of the Strikeforce light heavyweight title is unknown. Strikeforce’s Twitter account that more details concerning the fight would be announced shortly.
