It looks like a match-up between former UFC fighters Roger Huerta and War Machine (formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver) may be in the works for this fall.
Phuket Top Team, with whom Huerta is currently training in Thailand, tweeted news of the bout this afternoon.
“@RogerHuerta set to return to the cage against the notorious @WarMachine170 November 26th in Pharr, Texas. This is going 2 b huge #mma”
Huerta hasn’t appeared in action since losing via TKO to Bellator lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez back in October of 2010. The 28-year-old is 1-4 over his last five fights, sandwiching defeats to Kenny Florian, Gray Maynard, Pat Curran and Alvarez around a submission win over Chad Hinton.
War Machine also hasn’t seen the inside of a cage for some time, unless you count a jail cell. The 29-year-old has spent the last year in San Diego county’s George Bailey Detention Facility for a felony assault conviction, having just been released on July 15. Machine, who is scheduled to face Gideon Ray this October 15, took to his Twitter shortly after the rumor broke to make sure everyone knows that the fight is not yet a done deal.
“@cagetoday lol…rumors sure fly, Ive agreed to the fight but contracts havent been signed yet,” he wrote. “I fight Gideon in Chicago first regardless.”
