Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 139 in November.
Henderson’s trainer, Daniel Woirin, believes the bout will be a great fight for both former champions and the fans.
“It’s a great match up, everyone wants to see it,” said Woirin, in an interview with Tatame.com. “For their characteristics, it’s be an aggressive fight. Dan is champion of Strikeforce and he can fight anyone.”
Both Henderson and Rua fought in PRIDE in Japan, but they never crossed paths.
“Hendo” was the last person to wear the PRIDE middleweight and welterweight titles. He is 28-8 and has won three straight fights, including a TKO win over Fedor Emelianenko this past July.
“Shogun” is a one-time PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix champion and has held the UFC 205-pound title. Rua rebounded from a loss to Jon Jones that cost him the title by knocking out Forrest Griffin last month at UFC 134.
