New UFC welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger has watched his fight against Jake Shields back on replay.
Shields, who was knocked out by a body-head knee combo from Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 25 Saturday, had said he felt the fight could have continued past the 53-second mark when the referee stepped in.
For Ellenberger, though, there was no doubt it was over at that time.
“I watched the fight again,” said Ellenberger recently on the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Rewind” Show. “During the fight, you don’t know…I just fight until the ref stops. As I looked at it from a couple of different angles, he was definitely out.”
The win was the fifth straight inside the Octagon for Ellenberger, and moves him up the ranks towards a possible title shot.
While Ellenberger has really no idea who he will be matched up with next, he knows it is going to be an elite fighter – just like Shields.
“I’ve been so focused on Jake Shields, I really haven’t thought about anything past him,” Ellenberger said. “I told (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva I’ll fight anybody I have to to get my world title shot. It really does not matter to me. Diego (Sanchez), (Josh) Koscheck, (Jon) Fitch – all the top-level guys, whoever the UFC gives me, I’m ready.”
