Months before his 24th birthday, Jonny “Bones” Jones beat down Mauricio “Shogun” Rua within three rounds to become the youngest UFC light heavyweight champion in the promotion’s history.
Prior to that, Jones ran roughshod through the 205lbs. division; the dynamic young fighter defeated everyone put in his path (not counting the disqualification to Matt Hamill, but it’s hard to see that as a loss for Jones), racking up impressive stoppages over Brandon Vera, Vladimir Matyushenko and Ryan Bader along the way. His athleticism, all-around technique, unorthodoxy and disorienting, all-reaching frame have proven to be too much for anyone who has stepped in front of him.
