Antonio Rogerio “Minotauro” Nogueira has plans to deliver a knockout of Tito Ortiz at UFC 140.
Nogueira (19-5) has lost his last two bouts in the UFC by decision to Ryan Bader and Phil Davis, stopping a seven-fight win streak that included two victories inside the Octagon.
Now, though, the brother of Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira knows that he needs to perform well against Ortiz, or face a possible release.
“If I can avoid the ground game and try to knock him out, I will try…I’ll go after him and try the knockout, but if the fight goes to the ground, I’ll be ready,” Nogueira told Tatame.com recently. “I think he’s try to take me down to work on the ground and pound, but I’ll be ready for all this, defending the takedowns or doing a good guard on the ground.”
The two were expected to meet in March of this past year, but Ortiz had to pull out of the fight due to an injury suffered during training. Nogueira went on to face Davis, losing by unanimous decision.
Rogerio will also be fighting on the same card as his brother, who meets Frank Mir in a rematch of a fight won by Mir.
“That’s a good fight…Rodrigo wanted that fight, and it will be a good fight for him,” Rogerio said. “Frank Mir is tough, but Rodrigo is more complete and will be even better at that night.”
UFC 140 takes place December 10 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
