MMAJunkie.com reports that Jake Ellenberger, TJ Waldburger, Lance Benoist and Matt Riddle all earned fight night bonuses in the amount of $55,000 for their efforts at tonight’s UFC Fight Night 25 show.
Ellenberger earned Knockout of the Night for his first-round finish over top-flight welterweight Jake Shields. Shields tried hard, but was unable to get Ellenberger to the mat. Each time he came close, Ellenberger tossed him aside or lit him up with strikes. During one attempt made by Shields to close the gap, Ellenberger grabbed the Thai clinched and uncorked a knee that sent Shields face-first to the mat. From there, The Juggernaut pounded away until Shields was so loopy he was looking to take down the referee, who stopped the fight at the fifty-three second mark.
TJ Waldburger was awarded Submission of the Night for his slick display of ground game in submitting Mike Stumpf. Waldburger was all over Stumpf from the beginning, deftly taking his back after knocking him off balance with a leg kick in the bout’s opening seconds. He finally coaxed the tap after threatening with an armbar and then transitioning to a triangle, ending things in the first round.
Matt Riddle and Lance Benoist took home Fight of the Night bonuses for their three round battle. Benoist controlled the action in the first two rounds, displaying nice defensive wrestling and slick striking skills, but Riddle took over in the last round and dominated Benoist until the end. Benoist did enough to take the first two rounds on the judges’ cards though and went home with the unanimous decision win.
UFC Fight Night 25 went down at the Ernest N. Morial Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
