As expected, the ratings are in and the ratings are low for this past weekend’s Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov fight card.
Though the card was one of Strikeforce’s most stacked ever from top to bottom and featured several exciting fights on the main card, MMAJunkie.com reports that the Showtime broadcast only pulled in 247,000 viewers, which is the lowest for this year so far and almost half of the average number of viewers attracted by the usual Strikeforce broadcasts on Showtime.
In Strikeforce history, this show only beats out Strikeforce: Los Angeles — which went down in 2010 and featured a main event between Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Robbie Lawler — in terms of viewership.
In ratings, MMAJunkie reports that the show averaged only a 1.17 among the sought-after 18-34 male demographic, and a 1.04 amongst men ages 18-49.
Official attendance records have yet to be released, but reports from most outlets set up at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati last Saturday night are dismal at best, with most estimating a live audience of somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000.
This only fans the flames on the “Strikeforce is dying rumors” and is a real shame for the fighters who competed at the event, who almost all delivered and deserved to have more eyes viewing their performances.
