B.J. Penn Sees A Logjam Atop UFC Welterweight Division

As far as B.J. Penn is concerned, this might as well be a four-fighter elimination tournament at UFC 137: St-Pierre vs. Condit.

Georges St-Pierre is set to meet Carlos Condit in the main event for GSP’s welterweight title, while Penn takes on Nick Diaz at the October 29 card.

Everyone knows the news by now, how Diaz was pulled from the St-Pierre fight, while Condit was bumped from facing Penn to fighting for the title.

For Penn, this is just another road to cross before possibly facing St-Pierre for a third time.

“Diaz, he had his whole thing with his social disorder and all that, you know, it’s tough with the media. He ended up getting switched up. You know, there’s like four top guys in the world right now – Georges, Condit, me and Diaz – so I guess everybody just looks at it like they can’t advance if they take any other fight,” Penn said. “That’s the fight game, strictly business.”

For all his naming of the top welterweights in the UFC, Penn forgot to mention Jon Fitch, who he battled to a draw with in his last bout.

Fitch has been out with an injury, but claimed he would be ready to step in and face Penn on his Twitter account. Penn claimed on his own account that Fitch would not be cleared until December.
