Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin has suffered a minor shoulder injury during training and will have surgery on a torn right labrum.
Franklin is expected to make a full recovery. He will be out for two-to-three months, but will be able to make a return to training following physical therapy.
“The timing of this shoulder injury is unfortunate considering my fight was pulled from the UFC 133 card, but I know everything will go as planned and that I will recover quickly,” Franklin said. “The UFC is being supportive, and I hope my fans also will be understanding.”
Franklin hasn’t fought since falling to Forrest Griffin at UFC 126, but rumors of a bout with Tito Ortiz have been floating around for several weeks now.
Many thought the Franklin-Ortiz fight would be included on the UFC on FOX 1 card before the UFC heavyweight championship match between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos was signed.
