A rematch between Leonard Garcia and Nam Phan has been talked about since the two meet up in late 2010, with Garcia claiming a split decision.
Now, thanks to an injury to Matt Grice, that fight will finally happen, as the UFC announced Wednesday that Garcia and Phan meet October 8 at UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard lll.
Garcia (15-7-1) and Phan (16-9) exchanged over the course of a wild 15 minutes, with many in the crowd and watching at home believing that Phan had earned the win. Instead, the judges awarded the decision to Garcia.
UFC President Dana White was one of those that felt like Phan, a former member of The Ultimate Fighter, had won, awarding him his win bonus for the performance. The bout also earned Fight of the Night honors.
Both men could very well be fighting for their UFC careers, as Phan is 0-2 since exiting TUF, while Garcia is 3-4-1 in his last eight fights.
UFC 136 will feature two championship matches, as lightweight champ Frankie Edgar defends against Gray Maynard, and featherweight champ Jose Aldo meets Kenny Florian.
The Phan-Garcia contest is expected to stream live on Facebook.
