Matt Grice Out Of UFC 136; Nam Phan Awaits New Opponent

Tuesday was a banner day in terms of the UFC signing some major fights. But, it wasn’t all perfect for the brass from Las Vegas.

Matt Grice has been forced to pull out of a planned UFC 136 bout with Nam Phan following an undisclosed injury.

The featherweight bout was originally slated to be Grice (13-4) vs. Josh Grispi, but Grispi exited the fight last month and Phan (16-9) stepped in.

UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III takes place October 8 from Houston’s Toyota Center.

Phan is expected to remain on the preliminary card, which will stream live on Facebook.

The main card, which features championship matches pitting lightweight champ Frankie Edgar defending against Gray Maynard, and featherweight champ Jose Aldo competing against Kenny Florian is slated for pay-per-view. At least two other fights will make their way on Spike TV’s “UFC Prelims” special, while the rest are shown on Facebook.
