The UFC has announced today that a bantamweight scrap between Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and UFC newcomer Daren Uyenoyama has been put together for the rapidly materializing UFC On FOX 1 fight card.
Once considered to be the world’s best featherweight, 34-year-old Japanese fighter Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto has made the drop south to bantamweight after posting some mixed results at 145lbs. The potent striker made his long-awaited UFC debut this past February at UFC 126, where he dropped a unanimous decision to current number one contender Demetrious Johnson. Yamamoto sports an overall record of 18-4, but is 1-3 in his last four fights. Prior to joining the UFC’s ranks, Yamamoto dropped close decisions to Joe Warren and Masanori Kanehara.
Darren “BC” Uyenoyama (hint: the “BC” stands for Bone Crusher) was expected to make his UFC debut this past weekend at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro against Rafael Assuncao, but was unable to do so due to contract issues with the Shooto promotion. The 31-year-old has engaged in a very memorable bout with Hideo Tokoro (at Dream 4) and has most notably appeared in the Strikeforce, Shooto and Deep promotions. He sports a 6-3 record overall, with one win via TKO, three by submission and two by decision. He most recently appeared in action in September of 2010 against Shuichiro Katsumura at Shooto – The Way of Shooto 5: Like a Tiger, Like a Dragon.
Though the UFC on FOX 1 main event between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos is the only bout that is scheduled for airtime on the network, the preliminary card bouts are expected to be viewable on either Facebook or SpikeTV.
UFC on FOX 1 goes down on November 12 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
