Now less than a month away, UFC 135 will see newly-crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones attempt to defend his belt for the first time against former champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
The current darling of the UFC’s glamour division, Jon Jones rose through the UFC ranks in quick fashion by virtue of his creativity, phenomenal athleticism and work ethic. He looks better each time he enters the octagon and, at 24-years-old, has all the time and room in the world to get better. In his most recent performances, Bones absolutely demolished Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to take home the championship.
After making the transition from Pride to the UFC back in 2007, Quinton Jackson was a man on a mission. He knocked out Chuck Liddell when it really meant something to capture the UFC light heavyweight title and then defended it and unified it with the Pride title by beating Dan Henderson in a full-on barnburner. After losing the belt to Forrest Griffin though, Jackson’s motivation began to wane. Aside from a first round knockout over Wanderlei Silva, Jackson has only been involved in decisions since losing the belt and, win or lose, most got the impression that Rampage could be doing better. He insists that he is more motivated than ever to recapture his belt and he’ll need to be against the surging young champion.
UFC 135 goes down on September 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. Check out the preview video below.
