Anderson Silva added another middleweight scalp to his mantle last night in Rio and made another top flight fighter look no more than a confused neophyte.
The Spider defeated Yushin Okami with the kind of brutal precision that’s come to define his career, and he greatly strengthened the argument in favor of his status as the best mixed martial artist to have ever competed at this time. He joined countrymen Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira in taking home big wins for Brazil; he spoke about the victory with UFC.com after the fight.
“I’m happy, I’m happy. My whole team last night won,” said Silva. “Me and my master Minotauro and all the guys on my team — Erick Silva. Brazil, tonight, is win.”
Silva said that the reason for his greatness is simple: he trains with the best fighters and
under the best coaches on the planet.
“I train with the best guys in the world. Team Nogueira is the best,” he said. “I train together with ‘Cigano,’ Rafael ‘Feijao,’ Rogerio ‘Minotoro,’ Rodrigo ‘Minotauro,’ Luis Dorea, my jiu-jitsu coach, Ramon Lamos, my muay Thai coach, Pedro Rizzo — I’m training with the best guys in the world.”
Speculation has already begun as to who Silva should or might face next, with Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen, Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones’ names all being mentioned. Silva’s sticking to his guns though when it comes to who he wants next.
“Next? My clone.”
