The following are some quick notes for the UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami pre-fight press conference, which was held today in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The fight goes down this Saturday night from the HSBC Arena and will feature a main event between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and challenger Yushin Okami, a co-main event rematch between former UFC light heavyweight champions Forrest Griffin and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, as well as an old lion vs. young lion heavyweight tilt between MMA legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and the up-and-coming Brendan Schaub.

-Anderson Silva on keeping things respectful with Okami: Whenever I’m respected, I show respect.
-White wants to bring more events to Brazil, but is currently focused on UFC: Rio (UFC 134).
-Surprised by the living conditions in the Brazilian slums after visiting, Brendan Schaub will be donating training gear with the help of his sponsors to the favelas this evening.
-Griffin on fighting in hostile territory: It’s not the whole world that hates us, just the city of Rio. He understands, he always roots for the hometown/country fighter in the US.
-Schaub on the same: He expects the hostility and doesn’t take it personally.
-Okami says he’s just focused on his fight, the reception doesn’t matter.
-Dana White on why they picked Rio for the return of UFC in Brazil: “Rio is a destination worldwide. People know Rio from all over the world… Many people have dreamed of coming to Rio… To do it at a huge, international destination made a lot of sense.”
-Schaub on matching up with Big Nog’s jiu-jitsu: “My jiu-jitsu is my number one passion… Obviously Minotauro is pretty good at jiu-jitsu. It’s not really something where I’m expecting to go in there and out jiu-jitsu the guy… If it goes there, I’m comfortable. I’m prepared to face a guy like Minotauro.”
-White on bringing the UFC to Brazil: “It’s been very cool for us. Obviously we have a lot of respect for Royce. He’s the guy that started this thing. Some of the best fighters in the world are from Brazil. To get the reception that we’ve had is awesome. I’m really looking forward to Saturday night, to feel the crowd. It’s a pretty big deal for all of us, not just the UFC team but for these guys, too.”
-Big Nog on fighting in Brazil: “I’m very excited to fight here, I’ve never had the chance to fight with the whole crowd on my side. The arena is just one mile from my gym. The first time I’m going to fight in front of my daughter and my father.” “I’m gonna think of the support instead of the pressure.”
-I respect that Schaub called out the best in Minotauro, says White.
-Silva not looking at retiring anytime very soon. Steven Seagal did not help Silva this time around, but maybe next time. He may show up on fight night.
-Sonnen and Henderson are both possible next opponents for Silva if he gets past Okami and Sonnen gets past Stann.
