It has been confirmed with a fighter close to Josh Thomson that the former Strikeforce lightweight champion will be forced out of a planned contest with Maximo Blanco.
The Thomson-Blanco bout was suppose to be part of the main event for Strikeforce Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov scheduled for September 10 from Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena.
It is unknown if Blanco (8-2-1) will still make his Strikeforce debut on that night.
Thomson (18-4) hasn’t fought since 2010 when he was defeated by Tatsuya Kawajiri at DREAM “Dynamite! 2010.”
Blanco is riding a six-fight win streak. Seven of his eight career victories have come via stoppage.
