Coaches with Chael Sonnen’s Team Quest said that Sonnen will not accompany Yushin Okami to Brazil for his UFC middleweight title bout with Anderson Silva at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Sonnen, who was defeated by Silva in their title fight last year, has been suspended since the loss. He is set to meet Brian Stann at UFC 136 in October.
For weeks now, Sonnen, who has constantly directed negative comments towards Silva and several other Brazilian fighters, had claimed he would go to Brazil and be in Okami’s corner for his bout.
The official UFC Brazil Twitter account wrote that Sonnen was just “trolling” and will not be at the event.
It seemed like the notion of Sonnen going to Brazil was far-fetched, as he is still on probation for a Federal money laundering case and those that are on probation are not allowed to leave their native country.
Sonnen and Stann meet on October 8 in Houston in a bout that could determine the next No. 1 contender to the title.
