Gus Johnson, who left CBS Sports after not being able to reach an agreement with the company and has since signed on with FOX Sports to broadcast both NFL and college football games this fall, could shift from Strikeforce to the UFC, this according to FOX Sports Media Group President Eric Shanks.
“We’ll do pre-fight, post-fight, with probably more FOX talent,” Shanks said. “We have a lot of guys here between Jay (Glazer), Gus Johnson now is a huge fight fan and does a lot of MMA. Gus’ schedule permitting and having conversations with him as to when he would be available, I would think we’d love to have both of those guys on.”
Johnson is known for his wild antics when it comes to announcing, especially as a member of the CBS team during the annual NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Johnson, though, drew the ire of MMA fans when he called Seth Petruzelli knockout of Kimbo Slice “the biggest upset” in the history of the sport while broadcasting for CBS. He also angered fans when he said “these things happen in MMA” after a melee erupted inside the cage between the Diaz brothers and Jason Miller.
