Recently dethroned UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will face fellow former champ Forrest Griffin later this month at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro in a rematch of their UFC 76 scrap.
Following the dissolution of Pride Fighting Championships in 2007, Griffin welcomed Rua — at the time still heralded as one of the best light heavyweights in the world — into the UFC. A heavy underdog, Griffin took the fight to an under-prepared Rua and didn’t let off until he had submitted the dynamic Brazilian warrior.
Coming off of an absolutely one-sided loss to current champ Jon Jones dating back to March and still eager to prove that he’s a better fighter than Griffin, Rua is as motivated as ever to defeat The Ultimate Fighter season one winner.
