UFC President Dana White had no comment when asked about a report in the Sports Business Daily that claimed a television deal between the UFC and Fox has been worked out.
“I didn’t comment when The Wall Street Journal said we bought G4 either,” White said at a press conference in Houston for UFC 136. “When you’re in these negotiations, rumors start flying and everything else.”
White did make mention of wanting to wind up on broadcast television.
“I think it’s time,” he said. “I think we do fit into the sports world with the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA, etc. And I’ve always what would take it to the next level is a broadcast deal, being on one of the major networks. But to do that, you have to have the right deal.”
The rumored deal is expected to be with $90-million-per-year for at least seven or eight years. Current contracts with both Spike TV and Versus expire at the end of the year, so, even if this is just a rumor, we should know soon enough where UFC will be available to be seen on cable television.
