Sam Stout, a UFC fighter and brother-in-law of Shawn Tompkins, revealed in an interview with the London Free Press that the fallen trainer passed away of an apparent heart attack, this according to the autopsy performed.
Tompkins, 37-years-old at the time, died in his sleep this past weekend while helping train Chris Horodecki for a fight in Canada.
Stout is the sister of Tompkins’ wife, Emilie, and has been a long time friend and training partner.
“I don’t know what to say,” Stout said. “It’s not supposed to happen to a healthy 37-year-old person. Who would think he had to get checked out for that.”
Funeral services are being planned for London, Ontario, Canada.
