It was reported during Sunday night’s UFC Live: Hardy vs. Lytle event that MMA trainer Shawn Tompkins has passed away.
Tompkins was just 37-years-old.
Mike Straka, a friend of Tompkins’ who worked with him at TapouT, confirmed the death. The cause of his death is unknown.
The Ontario, Canada native fought as a professional MMA fighter, going 0-4. He made a name for himself, though, as a trainer of fighters Sam Stout, Mark Hominick and Chris Horodecki.
Tompkins also was a trainer at Xtreme Couture, and could be seen in the corner of Randy Couture during many of his fights.
In 2009, Tompkins moved to his own gym, opening the TapouT gym in Las Vegas where he was the head trainer.
