Rad Martinez, the subject of an emotional ESPN “Outside the Lines” presentation, will make his Bellator debut in September, according to a report by MMAFighting.com.
Martinez (9-2) will meet Brian Van Hoven (7-3) at Bellator 50 inside The Seminole Hard Rock & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on September 17.
Following the ESPN feature which talked about the dedication Martinez showed in taking care of his father, Richard, who was injured in a 1991 car accident that left him in a near-vegetative state, the 32-year-old has seen his profile rise.
Following the loss of his grandmother, Martinez has had to put many of his own dreams on hold to tend to his father.
The former Clarion University wrestler just recently had an eight-fight win streak snapped at the hands of UFC and Sengoku veteran Brian Cobb.
Joining Martinez and Cobb on the card will be the quarterfinals of the middleweight tournament which features Alexander Shlemenko, Bryan Baker, Vitor Vianna, Zelg Galesic, Brian Rogers, Sam Alvey, Jared Hess and Victor O’Donnell.
