The UFC’s return to Louisiana will feature a couple top names and several members of The Ultimate Fighter series, as the main card for September’s “Battle on the Bayou” has been made official.
Headlining the September 17 event from New Orleans’ Ernest N. Morial Convention Center will be a welterweight war between Jake Shields and Jake Ellenberger.
Also slated for the Spike TV Fight Night 25 card are matches pitting Court McGee against Dongi Yang, Jonathan Brookins against Erik Koch, and Alan Belcher meeting Jason MacDonald.
Shields (26-5-1) is coming off a loss to UFC champion Georges St-Pierre, and will be looking to get right back in contention for a rematch with a win against Ellenberger (25-5), who is 8-1 in his past nine fights.
The GSP setback snapped Shields’ 15-fight win streak, a mark that dated back to November 2005.
Set for the preliminary card are Cody McKenzie and Vagner Rocha; Shamar Bailey and Evan Dunham; Lance Benoist and Matt Riddle; Clay Harvison and DaMarques Johnson; Daniel Roberts and T.J. Waldburger; Mike Lullo and Mackens Semerzier; and Ken Stone and Donny Walker.
So far, there have been no announcements made regarding any of the prelim fights being shown live or by Facebook stream.
