Whether it’s referring to himself as the current middleweight champion or claiming that he let Anderson Silva win because he felt bad for him, Chael Sonnen recently continued to balance delusion, reality and entertainment at the UFC 133 Q&A session last week.
Sonnen managed to call out an array of fighters at the Q&A, most of whom were Blackhouse fighters from Brazil. The likes of Lyoto Machida, the Nogueira brothers, Rich Franklin (who fights with Team Extreme), and of course, Anderson Silva, were brought up by Sonnen. He even took the time to elude that the Nevada State Athletics Commission reinstated him because “as a public service” he will “burn Blackhouse down.”
As eager as Chael Sonnen was to jump on Blackhouse, he was equally willing to give praise to Cesar Gracie’s gym. Sonnen stated that he knows how hard Jake Shields and the Diaz Bros train, and that George St. Pierre’s “stock raised in my mind” with GSP’s victory over Shields at UFC 129.
At one point a question was asked regarding the recent rise in the number of injuries in the UFC, and Sonnen became immediately fired up and was once again on the attack. He took particular exception with Lil ‘Nog and Rich Franklin, both of whom were scheduled to fight at UFC 133 but were scratched either due to injury or just pulling out. He told the audience that dropping out of a fight was like calling into work a month early and vowed that neither Brian Stann nor Sonnen would drop out of their fight for sickness or injury.
Sonnen returns to the cage to face Stann at UFC 136 on October 8th in Houston. You can check out his appearance at the Q&A, which we had posted yesterday, below:
