Bellator Fighting Championships have another up-and-coming star on the roster, as the promotion announced the signing of welterweight David “The Cavemen” Rickels recently to an exclusive deal.
Rickels (7-0) has fought twice on Bellator cards, but will now fight exclusively for them.
“David made a strong impression on us during our fourth season, and we’re happy to have him joining Bellator full-time,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said in an official release.
The 22-year-old native of Kansas has won five of his career fights by submission, including a pair of triangle choke victories on prelim cards for Bellator against Dylan Smith and Strikeforce veteran Richard Bouphanouvong.
It is unknown if Rickels will compete in the upcoming tournament.
“Bellator is the place I want to be,” Rickels said. “This is a place I can make a career for myself. You look at Bellator, and they have top-10 welterweights like Jay Hieron and Ben Askren. It’s a dream to be fighting alongside those guys.”
Rickels trains with Janjira Muay Thai team.
