Strikeforce: Paul Daley Vs. Tyron Woodley

Big John McCarthy will oversee this welterweight contest.

Round 1: No glove touch for these two. Woodley taking a low stance. Daley follows suit. Woodley opens up first, throwing a few gauging strikes. Daley throws a knee that Woodley catches and uses to press him into the fence. Daley lands a knee low that breaks the action. They restart in the center of the cage. Woodley shoots and Daley defends. Woodley doesn’t let go of Semtex though and presses Daley into the cage. Woodley working short knees to Daley’s left leg. Daley fighting from going down, but he can’t quite spin off the fence. Woodley won’t give up on the takedown and McCarthy breaks them up. Daley moves in with a hard three-punch combo. Once Woodley feels overwhelmed he shoots for the takedown, which Daley defends. Daley breaks away from Woodley. Now it’s Daley that pushes Woodley into the cage. Woodley reverses him and lands a few nice shots to the body. Daley reverses now and presses Woodley into the fence. Woodley reverses and they trade knees from the clinch until the bell.

Round 2: Daley walks Woodley down and T-Wood quickly closes the distance with a shot. Daley defends well though and eventually presses Woddley into the fence. Woodley is working hard to get Daley on the mat, but Daley just isn’t having it so far. Spoke too soon, Woodley gets Daley onto his back with a single. Daley controlling Woodley’s posture well, preventing him from landing much. Daley looking to escape and he’s threatening with submissions here and there, keeping Woodley honest. Daley gets his back against the fence and looks to stand, but Woodley keeps the pressure applied and forces Daley back to his guard. McCarthy warns Woodley to improve his position. He doesn’t and Big John stands them up with under thirty to go. Daley wings a few shots and then sprawls out of a shot. Woodley is warned about grabbing Daley’s shorts. Daley ends the round on top, landing a few shots.

Round 3: Daley lands a hard right hand. Woodley fires back but Daley continues forward. Woodley hits a takedown when Daley throws a knee and puts Semtex back on the mat. Woodley looks to be working for an arm triangle, but Daley avoids. Woodley doing what many predicted he would, grinding Daley out on the mat. The crowd isn’t thrilled about it either. Daley kicks Woodley away briefly, but Woodley moves right back in on him. Woodley hanging on Daley’s leg, but Semtex gets to his feet anyway. He avoids several takedown attempts and ends up in side control on a belly down Woodley, landing shots precariously close to the back of Woodley’s head. They stand, Woodley tries for the takedown again and Daley avoids. Daley turning it on anytime they stay on their feet and he looks to have Woodley worried with some of the shots he’s landing. Daley rolls for an omoplata after stuffing a takedown, but Woodley avoids and rides out the round in Daley’s guard.
