British heavyweight prospect Philip De Fries is now a member of the UFC’s heavyweight division.
The 25-year-old announced the signing this week through his Facebook page.
Undefeated in seven professional fights, De Fries has beaten each of his opponents via submission and only one of his fights has seen the second round. The Sunderland, England native owns five victories via rear naked choke, one via brabo choke and one via armbar. He’s had one bout ruled a No Contest as a result of punches being landed to the back of the head. His most recent fight, which came earlier this month against Stav Economou at Ultimate Warrior Challenge 16, was the first of his career to reach the second frame.
Fighting out of The Dungeon in Castletown, De Fries has spent his entire professional career competing in England and that’s not likely to change in his UFC debut.
Though nothing has been stated officially, De Fries is expected to make his UFC debut at UFC 138, which will likely take place at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England this November 5.
UFC 138 will feature a main event between middleweights Chris Leben and Mark Muñoz.
