UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has put together more impressive stats than most any other fighter to date: he holds the mark for most consecutive UFC title defenses at eight, he owns the most consecutive wins in the promotion at thirteen (he is undefeated in fourteen fights, with his last loss coming by DQ after he knocked out Yushin Okami with an illegal blow), he’s won Fight of the Night three times, Knockout of the Night three times and Submission of the Night twice and he’s fought twice at light heavyweight, absolutely leveling his competition, which included former UFC 205lbs. champ Forrest Griffin.
Now, The Spider will sell burgers.
It is being reported by Brazilian news source Mano a Mano (props to Fighters Only) that Silva has just been signed by Burger King to be the new face of the fast food chain’s promotional campaign in Brazil.
The marketing manager for Burger King Brazil, Paul Davis, had this to say on the signing: “Anderson has a great identity with the brand, is an idol of many audiences, especially young people, our main customers. We believe he has much to contribute to make the new campaign more fun and impacting.”
Silva got the deal through his partnership with 9ine, the exclusive firm helmed by soccer star Ronaldo which sets athletes up with high-profile sponsorships and brand development opportunities.
The Spider will likely be sporting a BK logo on his shorts when he meets Yushin Okami this August 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the main event of UFC 134.
