Nate Marquardt has had about enough.
Since registering elevated levels of testosterone prior to his scheduled UFC on Versus 4 bout with Rick Story, thereby forcing his own removal from the card and eventually the UFC altogether, “The Great” has come under fire from a number of his peers — like BJ Penn, Hector Lombard, Paul Daley and Ben Askren — for being a “cheater.”
Speaking with HDNet’s Ron Kruck recently, Marquardt fired back at his critics.
“I don’t have a problem with anybody calling me out, but it’s the fashion they did it in,” explained the 32-year-old. “These guys are kicking me when I’m down, they’re calling me a cheater. Anyway they can get in a low blow, they’re doing it. They just don’t have they’re facts straight. They’re ignorant, they’re idiots and I want to fight them.”
Kruck jokingly asked in response if Marquardt would be willing to take on any of his rivals behind closed doors at a gym somewhere, since most of them have contractual obligations to promotions in which Marquardt is not or cannot be affiliated with.
“I put that on Twitter,” said Marquardt. “I said, ‘Get a fight set up and if that doesn’t happen, I’ll come to your gym, you come to mine, I don’t care. Let’s do it man. Let’s ‘spar’.”
