Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal is currently on deck to take on the Gracie’s great hope Roger this September at Strikeforce 36 in what will be his first fight back on the road to the title.
The 30-year-old decorated wrestler recently spoke with MMAWeekly.com and explained that, in addition to Roger Gracie, there are a multitude of light heavyweight fighters that intrigue him as opponents — on his side of the fence as well as in the UFC.
“Whoever man, I’ll fight ’em all,” responded Lawal when asked whom he’d most like to face in the UFC. “I don’t care, I just want to get paid. There are a lot of good fighters, you got people like Jon Jones out there — I’d like to fight him — you’ve got ‘Rampage’ [Jackson] — I’d like to fight him — you got a lot of people, a lot of good fighters out there at 205. Even guys in Strikeforce. I want to fight ‘Feijao’ [Cavalcante] again, I’d love that fight. I’d love to fight Dan [Henderson], that’d be a great fight too. Roger, the fight with Roger should be a good fight too. I just wanna fight, I don’t care about the name as much. I just wanna fight and cash that check.”
“King Mo” also revealed that he, like current Strikeforce 205lbs. champ Dan Henderson (who meets Fedor Emelianenko this weekend in a heavyweight bout), is willing to take on opponents like “The Last Emperor” at heavyweight. He also expressed his hope that Henderson wins, so that he can take a little extra glory in beating him for the title once he climbs back up the ranks.
“I’d fight Fedor at a catchweight, I’d fight Fedor at heavyweight, no catchweights for me. I’m like Mayweather, no catchweights,” he said. “If you wanna fight me at heavyweight, I’ll fight you at heavyweight. If that’s what Dan wanna do, that’s cool with Dan, more power to him. If he beats Fedor, it’s gonna make me look that much better when I beat him.”
Strikeforce 36 goes down this September 10 at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
