Yushin Okami On First Bout With Anderson Silva: “I Felt I Lost”

In one of the UFC’s intriguing summer rematches, UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva will square off against Yushin Okami to revisit their 2006 Rumble on the Rock fight.

In that bout, which didn’t last a round, “The Spider” knocked Okami out with an up-kick which was illegal in the promotion, giving “Thunder” the win by disqualification. The long-reigning Silva hasn’t dropped a contest since and has commented that he is uninterested in defending his belt against Okami, as he feels he’s already beaten the Japanese fighter.

Speaking with Brazilian news (and entertaining translation) source Tatame.com, Okami admitted that he agrees with the Brazilian champion that he lost their first tilt.

“I won by DQ, but I felt I lost that fight,” said Okami. “There was a damage. There is no point to talk about past things so I don’t really care of what people say about last fight. However, that experience made me stronger and as a result I was able to fight in UFC afterwards so I really thank and respect Silva. The word that he says to that I was dressed in damage last is past. I am not dressed. This time I will fight with respect and it will be a chance to show who’s the best.”

Okami will get his chance at redemption this August 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he will meet Silva in the card’s main event.
