Never one to lay back and let his opinion on PED usage in MMA go unheard, former UFC lightweight and welterweight champ BJ Penn recently took to his Twitter account to prod Nate Marquardt, who was recently released by the UFC for registering high levels of testosterone prior to his scheduled UFC on Versus 4 main event fight against Rick Story.
“I’ll show up to your gym to fight if you do a drug test every week for 3 months,” wrote “The Prodigy.” “Winner Keeps the video. Lmk (:”
A clearly sore Marquardt fired back within short order: “How about I give u my most recent and another one now showing that it’s low and I still mop the floor with your midget head?”
Penn retorted by taking a jab at the fact that Marquardt has had more than one PED-related dust up with state athletic commissions.
“What a Joke! 1 drug test? lol.. You should be tested every week for 3 months… and then we’ll fight,” posted the Hawaiian veteran. “… I have no doubt I will beat you if you come in natural like i have been doing my entire career.”
The likelihood that Penn and Marquardt will ever square off is low, now that “The Great” is a free agent and persona non-grata within the UFC — unless the two decided to actually engage in a gym fight, in which case I truly hope cameras are present.
