As noted over the weekend, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira suffered an apparent shoulder injury, forcing the PRIDE veteran to withdraw from his UFC 133 co-headlining fight with Rich Franklin in a little less than three weeks.
The organization announced on Sunday that the bout has been scrapped altogether after being unable to find a replacement to face Franklin. The Vitor Belfort vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama bout will now serve as the evening’s co-main event, and a bout between Brian Ebersole and Dennis Hallman has been promoted from the prelims to the main card.
Nogueira’s withdrawal comes a week after Phil Davis was forced to withdraw from the main event of the same card against Rashad Evans. Tito Ortiz eventually took Davis’ place to face Evans.
UFC 133: Evans vs. Davis takes place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this August 6.
