Guilherme Cruz of Tatame.com reported yesterday on his Twitter that Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has suffered an injury and has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 133 co-headlining fight with Rich Franklin in a little less than three weeks. The organization is working on finding a replacement to face Franklin.
UFC President Dana White confirmed the injury on his Twitter, writing, “Lil nog is out. Working on new fight!”
MMAJunkie is reporting that Nogueira apparently suffered a shoulder injury, and there is currently no timetable for when he will be able to return.
Nogueira’s withdrawal comes a week after Phil Davis was forced to withdraw from the main event on the same card against Rashad Evans. Tito Ortiz eventually took Davis’ place to face Evans.
Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin last fought at UFC 126 this past February, dropping a unanimous decision to Forrest Griffin.
UFC 133: Evans vs. Davis takes place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this August 6.
