The Vancouver Athletic Commission confirmed to Sherdog.com that all five UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin fighters who were selected for drug screenings passed their respective tests.
Krzysztof Soszynski, Nick Ring, Dave Herman, Donald Cerrone and Junior dos Santos all produced clean results. Headliner Shane Carwin was also selected to be screened, however the commission ultimately decided against testing the former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion.
“Despite Mr. Carwin’s willingness to complete the sample collection process, the VAC unilaterally exercised its discretion to rescind its selection of Mr. Carwin for anti-doping testing shortly following his bout at the event,” read a statement from the VAC to Sherdog. “In making such a determination, in its absolute discretion, the VAC seeks to balance the guiding values of ‘fairness’ and ‘fighter safety.'”
UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin took place on June 11, 2011 from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Dos Santos cemented his spot as the top contender to Cain Velasquez’s heavyweight title by dominating Carwin for three rounds of the card’s main event, en route to a unanimous decision victory. UFC president Dana White announced shortly after that dos Santos will challenge Velasquez for the title this November.
