Cheick Kongo Takes Out Pat Barry In Stunning Comeback

Cheick Kongo’s knockout victory over Pat Barry tonight at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was easily one of the most entertaining and surprising in UFC history.

The two men traded kicks early, but it was Barry who put the longtime heavyweight staple in trouble early on. “HD” landed a huge overhand right that dropped Kongo to his knees and from there looked to put away the 6’4″ Frenchman with strikes. Against all odds and appearances though, the wobbly-kneed Kongo outlasted Barry’s continued assault — which saw him apparently knocked out on more than one occasion — to come back and knock Barry out with a pair of devastating right hands.

Smelling blood in the water, Barry rushed in to finish Kongo and his overzealous approach proved to be his downfall. Leaving himself open, Kongo landed a right hook and right uppercut which shut Barry’s lights off; the follow up shots that he landed were academic, this fight was over.

Kongo earned himself Knockout of the Night honors with the win and earned himself a win after almost a yearlong layoff coming off of a draw. Kongo improves his record to 16-6-2 and gets back on the winning track.

A very disappointed Barry falls to 6-3 and makes it 2-3 in his last five.
