Marquardt “Heart Broken” Over Failed Medicals, Commission To Address Media Today

Nate Marquardt took to his Twitter this morning to issue an apology for having to pull out of tonight’s scheduled bout with Rick Story at UFC Live On Versus 4.

“I’m sorry to all my fans and the UFC for not passing the medicals for tonight’s fight,” wrote Marquardt. “I’m heart broken I couldn’t fight, but I will b back”

Marquardt was pulled out of tonight’s fight, which was scheduled to be his welterweight debut, after failing his medicals. The former top middleweight contender was subsequently cut from the organization.

The reason for Marquardt failing to receive medical clearance is still unknown, however’s Dann Stupp wrote on his Twitter that a Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission representative will address the media regarding the situation today at 4pm ET.

Charlie Brenneman will fill in for “The Great” to face Story at tonight’s event, while the Cheick Kongo – Pat Barry heavyweight bout that was originally slated to be the co-headliner will now serve as the main event.

UFC Live takes place tonight from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The main card will air live on Versus in the U.S. and on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada. Make sure to check back here later this afternoon for’s live coverage of the event.
