It looks like Nate Marquardt’s debut at 170 lbs. will have to wait.
Marquardt was pulled from his headlining bout with Rick Story at tomorrow’s UFC Live On Versus 4 event. While no official reason has been given for his withdrawal, it is known that Marquardt was not medically cleared to fight. Marquardt has long been one of the world’s top middleweights, and decided to make the drop at the urging of his friend and teammate Georges St-Pierre.
Marquardt’s camp released a statement noting that Marquardt plans to stay in his new division.
“Nate is really disappointed,” the statement read. “He really was looking forward to making his welterweight debut, and he plans to be back in there as soon as possible.”
Charlie Brenneman will fill in for Marquardt to face Story at tomorrow’s event. Brenneman was originally slated to meet T.J. Grant on the preliminary card, however Grant was forced to withdraw earlier this week due to an unknown illness.
