As noted last week, UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta revealed to the L.A. Times that the company is looking to match UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez against top contender Junior Dos Santos on November 19th from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA.
It will be the organization’s first foray into San Jose, which has been the home of their recent acquisition, Strikeforce. The organization has instead hosted events in nearby Sacramento and debuted in Oakland at UFC 117 last year.
Meanwhile, Strikeforce will be debuting on the UFC’s home turf of Las Vegas, NV next month at the Pearl at the Palms Casino for a Strikeforce Challengers event on July 22nd.
Velasquez is currently recovering after undergoing shoulder surgery to mend an injury he suffered in winning the belt from Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 last October. The American Kickboxing Academy-trained heavyweight partially tore his right rotator cuff in the bout.
Number one contender dos Santos further proved his rightful place as the next challenger to the title after dominating the heavy-handed Shane Carwin over three rounds earlier this month at UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin.
