Strikeforce: Daniel Cormier Vs. Jeff Monson

Round 1: They touch gloves to start things. Cormier tries a head kick out that is partially blocked. Monson taking an in-line, boxing style stance. They clinch. Cormier lands an elbow. They break. Cormier shows some decent boxing in landing to the body and head of Monson. Cormier presses Monson into the fence. Monson bleeding slightly from the top of the head. Cormier looking to put some strikes together, not looking to take things down yet. Cormier lands a nice straight left that looks to have stung Monson. Cormier with a nice body kick. Cormier lands a one-two cleanly. Cormier is already starting to take this fight. Cormier lands a good left hook. Cormier is landing punches as he will on Monson, while Monson looks content to do, well, little so far. scores the round 10-9 for Cormier

Round 2: They touch gloves again. Many believed that Monson had conceded defeat before this fight started, with his eyes on a move to light heavyweight, and “The Snowman: doesn’t look to be dissuading his detractors here. Cormier puts Monson on his back with a strike, but Cormier won’t follow him down and they take back to their feet. Monson lands an overhand right and then engages the clinch. Cormier turns him into the fence. Cormier still landing well and mixing things up on the feet. They clinch in the center. Monson with a nice jab. Cormier makes him pay with a pair of hard shots. Both men start to open up with their punches, with Cormier getting the better of things. He presses Monson into the fence. Cormier with double underhooks locked. He backs off and turns on the heat, tagging Monson with a multi-punch combo to the body and head. He mixes in a nice body kick as well. Cormier gets in with a quick right hand and presses Monson back into the fence. Monson just isn’t pushing the pace here. scores the round 10-9 for Cormier

Round 3: They touch gloves to start the final round. A nice leg kick by Cormier. This looks to stay a kickboxing match between the two phenomenal grapplers, with Cormier consistently getting the better of it. He tags Monson with a right, but the veteran hangs tough. Cormier hits him again with a strong right hand. He dumps Monson to the mat, and will not follow him down. Monson seems to be content to lay back, or he just doesn’t have an answer for Cormier’s offense. Cormier whiffs on a head kick. Cormier drops Monson to a knee with a punch, and avoids his subsequent takedown attempts. Cormier bulls him into the fence. The result of this fight seems to be a foregone conclusion at this point, Monson just doesn’t seem to want it that bad, for whatever reason. He dumps Monson to the mat again and walks away, letting him get back to his feet. The Olympic wrestler showing some very solid striking tonight. scores the round 10-9 for Cormier

This is one that the judges can’t get wrong.
