The UFC announced on their website that Stephan Bonnar has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming bout with Karlos Vemola at UFC on Versus 5. UFC newcomer Ronny Markes will replace Bonnar at the event.
According to a report on MMAFighting.com today, Bonnar suffered a Grade II tear of his medial collateral ligament (MCL). Bonnar stated that he will be in a brace for six weeks, however the injury will not require surgery.
25-year old London Shootfighters product Karlos Vemola made his UFC debut in July of 2010 at UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin, dropping a unanimous decision to Jon Madsen. “The Terminator” got the momentum swinging back in his favor in his second UFC appearance though, taking out Seth Petruzelli via first round TKO. Vemola’s overall record stands at 8-1, his UFC record at 1-1.
Markes will be making his Octagon debut against Vemola, and is currently on a four-fight win streak.
UFC Live on Versus 5 takes place on August 14, 2011 from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The event is the first hosted by the organization in the state of Wisconsin.
