Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Muñoz fought hard to earn a unanimous decision — the scores of which portray a bout that was much less closely contested than the one which actually took place in the cage — victory over a very tough Demian Maia last night on the main card of UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin
Speaking post-fight (props to MMAJunkie.com), Muñoz revealed that he believes his close victory over Maia was enough to greatly improve his stock in the middleweight division and warrant himself a top spot at 185lbs.
“I proved a point that I am in that top echelon,” Muñoz said. “Demian Maia, he’s definitely a force to be reckoned with at the 185-pound weight class. I think I’m up there somewhere.”
Muñoz didn’t call anyone out for his next bout, saying that he’s ready to further prove that he’s one of the best middleweights in the world against anyone that the UFC wants to put in his path.
“I’m just going to fight and fight whoever they give me and beat them,” he said. “My job is to just keep improving. I tell everybody if you make your weaknesses your strengths -– be a well-rounded fighter -– then you’re going to reach the top at some time. That’s what I want to do. I want to keep improving, and whoever they give me, they better watch out.”
