UFC 131: Junior Dos Santos Vs. Shane Carwin

Carwin makes his way to the cage to an Eminem track, “Til’ I Collapse.” Dos Santos walks out looking like a man possessed to the Rocky theme song.

Herb Dean will referee the main event.

Round 1: No glove touch once the action starts, these two are looking to throw down. They show a lot of respect off the bat though. Carwin shoots for the takedown early, pressing dos Santos into the fence. Dos Santos lands a good knee and breaks off of the fence. Carwin whiffs on a right hand. They trade right hands with dos Santos landing a bit cleaner. Dos Santos with a good jab. Another. He goes to the body. He keeps Carwin at bay with the jab a he lunges in. Carwin shoots in again and briefly gets dos Santos down but he quickly gets to his feet. Another jab for dos Santos. Dos Santos is reddening Carwin’s face with the jab. A jab, left hook, right hand combo lands for dos Santos. Dos Santos is tagging Carwin up here and he sends the big man to a knee. Dos Santos is just hammering away at Carwin, while Carwin does his best to cover up against the fence. Dos Santos backs off and Carwin is bleeding profusely. scores the round 10-9 for dos Santos

Round 2: Dos Santos throws a rare head kick. Carwin tries to rush forward but dos Santos avoids. “Cigano” looks confident, looking to unload with a big shot to end things. He goes back to work with the jab. Dos Santos lands an inside leg kick. Dos Santos working hooks to the body now. Dos Santos lands another inside leg kick and Carwin returns fire with a leg kick of his own. Another. Carwin looks to have the bounce back in his step, but dos Santos is still working him with the jab. Carwin lands a decent shot, but dos Santos circles out and goes back to work with the jab. Carwin lands a good right. Dos Santos with a nice inside leg kick. Dos Santos with another stinging jab. Dos Santos lands a head kick, but Carwin wade through it. Dos Santos lands a good left hook. Carwin’s face is an absolute mess. Dos Santos hammers a body shot home and misses on a big overhand right. scores the round 10-9 for dos Santos

Round 3: They touch gloves to start the last round. Carwin tries for the takedown under a lefrt hook by dos Santos and he gets the Brazilian to his back against the fence. Dos Santos gets back to his feet though, but Carwin stays on him against the fence. Dos Santos grabs the plum and lands a nice knee before circling out. Dos Santos scoring with the jab again. Carwin is looking to make something happen, but dos Santos is aboiding well and landing mostly as he will. A good right hand finds a home for dos Santos. Dos Santos with a nice jab-right hand to the body. Dos Santos putting his punches together, tagging Carwin up as he pleases. Herb Dean halts the action as the round winds down to bring in the doctor to check out Carwin’s face. Dos Santos hits the takedown behind a left hook, dumping Carwin to the mat and landing some punches before they get back to their feet. Thirty seconds to go and dos Santos has run away with this fight. Dos Santos hist another takedown right before the bell.

Junior dos Santos defeated Shane Carwin via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Dos Santos tells his opponents to “be careful,” he’s training wrestling too. He says he respects Velasquez, but that he’s coming for him. Heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez greets him in the cage and says that he’s excited to face him for the belt.
