UFC 131: Michihiro Omigawa Vs. Darren Elkins

Let’s see if Elkins third UFC appearance will go past the first round and whether or not Omigawa can rebound from his UFC debut loss to Chad Mendes.

Round 1: No glove touch for these two. Elkins throws first, but Omigawa avoids his punches easily. Omigawa showing some unorthodox, but effective head movement and footwork. Omigawa scoring with good straight lefts. A good right lands for Elkins. Neither man attempting to throw any kicks or takedowns yet, opting to try their luck punching. Elkins tags Omigawa as the Japanese fighter lunges in. Elkins gets a nice takedown but Omigawa threatens with a leg lock and gets back to his feet immediately. Elkins lands a nice right hand. Very even fight so far. Elkins is starting to put his combinations together, keeping Omigawa on his heels. scores the round 10-10

Round 2: They touch gloves to start this round and go right back to trading punches in the pocket. Omigawa is putting the pressure on early. Elkins is bleeding from a few different spots on his face, but the blood doesn’t seem to be bothering him too much. Omigawa throws a leg kick, the first of this bout. Elkins is essentially repeating the same combos and Omigawa is starting to time him. Omigawa lands a nice right while Elkins tries to move in. Omigawa is avoiding a good portion of Elkins’ punches and countering well. A flurry lands for Elkins, but it doesn’t have much pepper on it. A good left hand followed by another pair of straights lands for Elkins. Elkins dives for a takedown and Omigawa avoids it easily. scores the round 10-9 for Omigawa

Round 3: They touch gloves to begin the last round. Omigawa lands a stiff counter as Elkins moves forward. Omigawa lands a takedown early and looks to work from Elkins’ guard. Elkins doing well defending, but Omigawa lands a hard right hand. Elkins goes for a triangle, they scramble and end up back on their feet. Elkins is bleeding heavily from his face. Omigawa eggs Elkins on during a period of inactivity on the feet. A good one-two by Elkins. A nice left hand lands for Omigawa. Things have settled back into the same groove on the feet, with neither man taking a huge edge, but Omigawa landing a little harder and more frequently, while taking less damage. scores the round 10-9 for Omigawa
