The UFC opened 2010 with five weight divisions. After absorbing WEC and adding the featherweight and bantanmweight divisions last fall, the number of weight classes jumped to seven. And it appears that an eight may be on its way, as UFC President Dana White revealed at yesterday’s UFC 131 pre-fight press conference that the organization is looking to instate a 125-pound flyweight division “really soon.”
“We have to get out there; we have to create the division,” said White. “We bring the guys in, sign them and start putting on fights. You figure out who the best is, and you have a title fight.”
