The UFC has announced today that light heavyweight Krzysztof Soszynski will now face Mike Massenzio this weekend at UFC 131, as the man he was expected to face, Igor Pokrajac, has been forced out of their bout due to injury.
Pokrajac was brought in as a replacement for Soszynski’s originally scheduled opponent, Anthony Perosh.
Mike Massenzio will be making his light heavyweight debut against Soszynski, on only a few days notice no less. Previously fighting in the middleweight division, the 28-year-old Massenzio was cut from the UFC after losing two straight fights against CB Dollaway and Brian Stann. The New Jersey native went 1-2 overall in the promotion, having submitted Drew McFedries in his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 15 in 2008. Massenzio is 12-4 overall, with two of his wins coming by TKO, six by submission and four by decision.
Massenzio last appeared in action on April 29 in his first and only contest since being released from the UFC; he defeated Nate Kittredge via second round TKO.
A seven-fight veteran of the UFC, Krzysztof Soszynski rebounded from a TKO loss in a rematch against Stephan Bonnar by taking out Goran Reljic via unanimous decision; that fight took place at UFC 122 this past November. Soszynski is 25-11-1 overall and is 5-2 in the UFC.
