UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones told MMAJunkie.com that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will be the first challenger for his title.
“I’ll be fighting Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson next,” Jones told MMAjunkie.com. “I’m not allowed to discuss the date because I didn’t sign a contract, but yeah, it will be very soon.”
Jackson defeated a very game Matt Hamill last Saturday night at UFC 130, dominating “The Hammer” for the three rounds that their main event bout lasted. Jackson revealed after the fight that he came in with a fractured hand that he injured last winter. Apparently, the hand injury isn’t serious enough to prevent him from fighting Jones.
Jones was originally slated to defend his title against former training partner Rashad Evans, however a nagging hand injury of his own forced the champion to withdraw from the fight. Jones has since decided to not have surgery on the hand, and has indicated that he would be ready to fight this fall.
