Anthony Johnson has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled fight with Nate Marquardt at UFC on Versus 4 later this month after suffering a shoulder injury in training. Rick Story will fill in for “Rumble” to face “The Great”.
Story surpassed expectations and surprised many by defeating longtime top welterweight Thiago Alves via unanimous decision last Saturday night at UFC 130. After losing in his UFC debut to John Hathaway, Story has put together six straight wins in the UFC welterweight division, with this latest victory over Alves signalling his intent at 170-pounds.
As for Marquardt, the long-time top contender in the UFC’s middleweight division will be dropping down to welterweight for the bout. “The Great” has expressed interest in changing weight divisions since his unanimous decision victory over Dan Miller at UFC 128. He has been near the top of the division since his UFC debut in 2005 with wins over Jeremy Horn, Martin Kampmann, Demian Maia, Rousimar Palhares and Dan Miller.
UFC Live on Versus 4 will take place on June 26 from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The main card will be broadcast on Versus in the U.S. and on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada.
